Mattress Topper Materials Explained: Foam, Gel, Bamboo & Cotton

Merchant: Caliora Atelier • Jaipur, Rajasthan • Support: boutique@calioraatelier.shop

Toppers can feel completely different depending on what they are made of. Here is what each material does best, so you can choose by feel rather than guesswork.

Memory foam

Dense foam that softens with body heat and moulds to your shape. It excels at pressure relief and motion isolation — ideal for side sleepers and couples. The trade-off is that basic foam can trap heat.

Gel-infused memory foam

Memory foam with cooling gel worked through it. You get the same contouring support, but the gel pulls heat away so the surface stays cooler through the night.

Bamboo & cotton

  • Bamboo viscose — naturally breathable and moisture-wicking, with a soft, cool touch.
  • Quilted cotton — a lighter, plush layer that adds softness and stays airy.
  • Both suit anyone who wants a natural, breathable feel rather than deep foam contour.

Pillow-top & quilted

A padded, stitched surface that adds a soft hotel-style layer on top of a firm mattress — comfort without a lot of sink.

Which is right for you?
