A little care keeps a topper fresh, hygienic and supportive for years. How you clean it depends on what it is made of.
Protect it from day one
Use a washable, breathable mattress protector over the topper. It takes the sweat, spills and dust so the topper itself stays clean — by far the easiest way to extend its life.
Cleaning by type
- Memory foam / gel foam: never machine-wash. Spot-clean with a barely damp cloth and mild detergent, and let it air-dry fully before putting bedding back.
- Bamboo & quilted cotton: many have a removable, machine-washable cover — wash cool and air-dry.
- Vacuum the surface occasionally to lift dust and keep it fresh.
Keep it fresh
- Air the topper by a window every few weeks, especially in humid weather.
- Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda, leave briefly, then vacuum to neutralise odours.
- Rotate it head-to-foot now and then so it wears evenly.
Storing it
Store flat or loosely rolled in a breathable bag — never crushed tight, which can damage foam. Browse our mattress toppers for easy-care options.
